Clarion Partners is proud to celebrate our Firm’s 40-year history as a leading real estate investment manager. Since our founding in 1982, Clarion's priority has been in honoring our commitment to our clients, with the singular goal of delivering strong performance while maintaining our partnership culture embodied in our Firm's name.
KEY INDUSTRY PLAYER AND COLLABORATOR
We believe that the success of our Firm is a function of not only our investment performance, but also our ability to build long-term relationships with our clients and business partners. Many of our strategic partnerships span 30 years or longer.
Our talented and experienced Firm leadership team is active in many facets of strengthening our industry. Clarion’s senior management has been actively involved in and has long served on the boards of numerous national councils and trade associations, including the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), Urban Land Institute (ULI), Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP), National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM), National Multifamily Housing Council (NHHC), and others. Each of these groups plays an important role in shaping our industry, and we are pleased to support them.
INNOVATOR OF LEADING REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT PLATFORMS
Over our 40-year history, Clarion has been an innovator in the industry, structuring and managing numerous investment portfolios across property types and the risk/return spectrum. The Firm began as a manager of separate account real estate portfolios for pension funds; today, the Firm continues to manage separate accounts, but is also the sponsor of 13 commingled funds, including four scaled, open-end vehicles. In addition, Clarion recently entered the realm of democratizing access to privately held, income-producing commercial real estate properties with the launch of several vehicles available to individual investors.
EARLY MOVER IN THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR
Clarion Partners invests across geographies and in all key property types, though the industrial sector has clearly been an essential component of our growth story. In 2002, Clarion acquired a closed-end industrial platform and converted it into one of the first sector-specific open-end fund vehicles in the warehousing and logistics space. Clarion’s research team began tracking the impact of e-commerce on the industrial sector many years ago, which led us to overweight industrial before many of our competitors. The growth and success of our core-plus industrial program is the reason why, according to IPE’s annual ranking of Top Real Estate Investment Managers, Clarion is the third largest owner of industrial in the U.S., managing over $41 billion in AUM across almost 900 properties. (Click here to read a recent interview with our Industrial team as we celebrate 20 years in the space.)
Seeking to further leverage our Firm's expertise and capitalize on international logistics real estate expansion and investment opportunities, our Firm acquired a majority interest in a European industrial platform, which was re-named Clarion Partners Europe (CPE) in 2019. As a subsidiary of Clarion Partners, CPE currently manages over 1.6 million total square meters of logistics space across six countries.
LONG-TIME ADVOCATE FOR DEI PROGRESS
Clarion has been a strong proponent of sponsorship, partnership, and industry leadership to increase the pipeline of diverse candidates in the real estate industry. As a founding benefactor of the PREA Foundation, Clarion participated in the inaugural launch of a joint PREA and Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Real Estate Track internship program for underrepresented college students. Clarion also hosts high school interns through our multi-year partnership with the Cristo Rey Network to introduce real estate as a compelling career option to minority students. For over 15 years, our Firm has also been heavily involved with high-impact organizations such as the Robert Toigo Foundation and WX Women Executives in Real Estate to cultivate and support the future leaders of our industry.
THE FUTURE OF CLARION PARTNERS
At Clarion, we are empowered by what matters most in real estate: the vision and judgment to make sound decisions today that build value tomorrow. Clarion Partners has been an integral part of the commercial real estate industry — and looks forward to continued contributions for the next 40 years and beyond.
